Case Study and Panel “Investments vs Economic Frauds”

As part of the new autumn activities of the Business Intelligence Club, in the Muse Event House we held a business event “Economic Fraud vs. investments” which, with its interesting topic and interlocutors, attracted a lot of attention from the guests. At the panel, we wanted to shed light on the different colors of business frauds, provide useful statistical data regarding internal fraud trends, present a case study, with the aim of encouraging prevention.

Before the panel, a case study from Serbia “Portrait of a money laundering scheme from tax evasion” was presented by Snežana Miletić, Ph.D., assistant professor, EKOF, expert in forensic accounting. Snežana Miletić, from the research they conducted as well as from the global ACFE study, pointed out which accounting frauds are the most common and why, which accounting frauds we least expect, and which occur. Also, the guests had the opportunity to hear more about the specific case study of tax evasion in Serbia, which is part of the research of dr. Snežana Miletić and the team that worked on it.

The panelists with whom the moderator Vladimir Pavlović, Partner, Omorca Ventures, spoke were: esteemed professor Miodrag Zec, Ph.D,  Miroslava Gaćeša, president of the Association of Certified Fraud Investigators of Serbia and director of Deloitte’s risk management sector, and Marko Šukilović, director of the development and sales sector from company G4S.

From our respected panelists, we were able to get answers to questions that certainly concern employers and top managers, such as: which fraud schemes are the most common, and which schemes bring the most damage to companies, ways to detect fraud, which are the most effective preventive measures for company owners and general directors, and to hear more interesting recommendations on the topic of preventing damage that can be caused by various business frauds, which was our goal in preparing this business panel.

After the panel, the guests continued the discussion at a cocktail party of our partners Zlatiborac Company and Apatin Brewery.
